Why do you ';have'; to change the IP address?

IF your brother's gaming is causing problems, describe the problem. How can I change IP in DSL Connection Without affecting others on network?
The router and modem take care of the IP automatically. If you've been messing with that, reset the router to default, give it an SSID and security key, and let it do its job.

The router gives you an internal IP address is only used by the internal network.

The modem gets the external IP from your ISP. That will only change if you turn off the modem, sometimes for a few moments, sometimes for a day and you get a new IP address next time the modem is turned on.
Your IP is basically your ';physical address'; or the route that internet traffic takes to get to you. Im not sure why you would want to. You seem to make it sound as if you already do so but it cuts off your brother. Are you spamming? Scanning? Botting?

Do you have multiple static IPs available, have one plugged into the router for DHCP assigning, and changing that? I could see that being a problem. In that case, assign one of the external IPs you have directly to your computer instead of allowing it grab one from the DHCP group.

Or put another ethernet card in your machine and assign it its own IP so you have an alternate method just for your use.

But the best thing might be to use VPN or VMWARE to give your machine another IP you can change as often as you want.
What makes you think that you have to change your IP address all of the time???

Who told you that this was a good idea?

It's not a good idea.

Update:

=======

If you think that changing your IP address will in any way prevent your ISP from identifying you as the user of a particular IP address, then you're sadly mistaken. They have very good accounting for such things.

The only thing that you could possibly be doing that requires IP address changes that often cannot be good.

And no, there's no way in heck that changing your IP address will not impact your brother's games.
You don't. You have to disconnect and reconnect to get a new IP address.

And frankly, the only reason you *have* to change your IP is you keep getting booted and banned from servers, or else someone lied to you.

EDIT: Or you're sending spam and is trying to avoid blacklists
